Playful Learning - Theory and Practice
Presenter: Catherine Oki (Pearson Longman Academic Consultant)
Teachers of very young learners know that learning occurs when children are motivated internally. In general, we call this "play." In reality, however, it is often challenging to find the right combination of "fun" and "language learning" which creates the best educational environment. How can we maintain this balance of "play" and "learning"? What do we deem as appropriate activities, and what should we keep in mind? Join this presentation and find out how to use "playful learning" with your very young learners.

What Teachers Do Next?
Presenter: Akiko Seino (Co-author of English Land)
Teachers of young learners have many things to think about: keeping our students motivated, managing mixed-level classes, and finding ways for our students to openly express themselves. We are also faced with the challenges of teaching young learners well-rounded communication skills, balancing receptive and productive skills, coping with different needs of varying age groups, and convincing parents of why all of this is important. What do teachers do next? The presenter will show practical and effective ways to deal with these challenges.

Where Do We Go From Here?
Presenter: Aleda Krause (Author of SuperKids)
Many of us who teach older children feel pulled in multiple directions. The Ministry of Education tells us not to teach language to young students, but instead to teach culture and instill an appreciation of language. Yet when they reach junior high school, we know that perfect English grammar and spelling will be expected, so we want to prepare them. If you are struggling with trying to teach communication, content, and correctness at the same time, let’s try to chart a course together.

Teaching Grammar to Children
Presenter: Mayumi Tabuchi & Shaheed Rupani (Ritsumeikan Primary School)
Many teachers are afraid grammar teaching confuses children and demotivates them if taught in a way that is too theoretical or formal. Grammar, however, is a crucial part of their English education, as accuracy really matters in the meaning of the intended English. How can we allow them to acquire the basic fundamental grammar principles in a fun and a meaningful way?
"Noticing", "Drilling through Chanting", "Fun activities" and "Producing" are some of the key phrases to be presented. This presentation will be filled with demonstrations displaying a strong emphasis on "Team Teaching." The effective use of digital content, shadowing techniques and some interesting ideas for reading activities will also be discussed. Join us and find out the fun way to teach grammar.
